Questions
Frequently asked
The things worth knowing before you start, and the ones people ask afterwards.
What does it cost?
Most of it is free, permanently. Writing clippings, making collections, arranging boards, exporting to PDF and publishing a public page are all free and always will be.
Plus costs £3.99 a month or £29 a year (roughly $4.99 / $39 outside the UK) and adds one thing: your archive syncing across devices and being backed up off your phone.
What happens if I do not pay?
Nothing is taken away. A free account keeps everything on the device it was written on, and works exactly as it always did — it simply is not copied to our servers.
What if I cancel Plus?
You keep Plus until the end of the period you have paid for. After that, syncing stops and your archive stays on your device. Nothing is deleted.
The copy on our servers is kept for a further 60 days. Open the app on any device during that window and your whole archive downloads onto it. After 60 days the server copy is removed — the copies on your own devices are never touched.
Can other people see what I write?
No. Everything is private by default. Nothing is visible to anyone unless you deliberately publish a collection or a board, which is a separate, explicit act.
What happens when I publish something?
A frozen copy is made at a permanent address like livingverses.com/yourname/a1b2c3d4 — readable by anyone with the link, no account needed. Your private working copy carries on separately; editing it does not change the published page until you choose to update it.
You can unpublish at any time, and the page becomes a quiet “no longer shared” note rather than a broken link. The address stays reserved for you.
Why can I not change my username?
Because every link you have shared is built from it. Changing it would break every page anyone has ever opened, bookmarked or forwarded. It is fixed once set, which is why the app asks you to choose carefully.
Do published pages track people?
No. There are no view counters, no analytics, no cookies and no third-party scripts on a published page. Someone reading what you shared is not measured, and neither are you.
Can I get my work out?
Yes, at any time and on any plan. Export PDFproduces a document of whatever you are looking at, images and notes included. Your clippings also live in your own browser’s storage, so they are not held hostage by a subscription.
What do I need to use it?
- — A modern browser — it works on a phone, tablet or desktop
- — An account, so your work can be recovered and so publishing has a name attached
- — Nothing else. There is no app to install, though you can add it to your home screen
